PRESS RELEASE.
Fabienne Racing has taken note of the stewards’ decision at the Mexican Grand Prix. Max Verstappen and Liam Lawson made contact in Free Practice 2 after going through the stadium section side by side, with neither on a flying lap. Car 3 was on a preparation lap, car 30 on a cool-down lap.
The team notes with interest that no one was found responsible, and that both drivers nonetheless drop one place on the grid for their next race, normally this weekend in Mexico. “It’s modern management: we share the responsibility that doesn’t exist,” says the team principal. “At our place, when the kart comes back with a damaged side pod, we do the same. Nobody is responsible, and everybody cleans up.”
Fabienne Racing also points out that, according to the report, both drivers admitted their manoeuvres were unnecessary and clumsy. The outfit sees this as a model of communication. “We maximised our package. They maximised their frankness,” says the team principal.
A warning had been given to the team principals earlier in the day. The team principal confirms that she reads every warning, including those addressed to herself, on Sunday mornings under the gazebo.
A warning, then a place. That’s the procedure. Nothing further to report.
The team adds that Florian has never clipped anyone on a cool-down lap, as the Mariembourg circuit leaves him no time to cool down. “Florian is ready. He always has been.”
