PRESS RELEASE.
Fabienne Racing has taken note of George Russell’s retirement from the Malaysian Grand Prix. The Mercedes driver looked on course for a solid third place when his engine failed behind the safety car, a few laps from the finish. According to RacingNews365, the loss comes to fifteen points.
The team has read carefully the statement from Bradley Lord, Mercedes’ deputy team principal, who told RacingNews365 that the investigation had begun and that it was clearly a mechanical problem on the power unit side, the exact cause still to be established. “We do a first inspection when the car comes back too,” says the team principal. “It takes place at the garage of our technical partner, my brother-in-law, on a Monday, with a torch.”
Russell having reached the limit of engine elements, he will receive, according to RacingNews365, a heavy penalty that will send him to the back of the grid in Singapore. Mercedes HPP is doing everything to have the ADUO2 upgrade ready for that weekend, rather than for the United States Grand Prix two weeks later, to avoid two starts from the back.
“That is programme management at the very highest level,” says the team principal. “Bundling the bad news into a single weekend, we have been doing that for years: the puncture, the rain and the Dacia that won’t start always land on the same Sunday. We maximised our package.”
The outfit also notes that 150 points will remain to be awarded after Singapore. It reminds everyone that the team remains open to discussions with any team evaluating its options. Florian is ready. He always has been, from any grid position, including last, which he knows well from the Mariembourg kart circuit when the trailer arrives late.
Your correspondent salutes the press release, of whose Dacia paragraph he has, from a reliable source, understood nothing.
