PRESS RELEASE.
Fabienne Racing has taken note of the method Alpine adopted after the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. At the first restart behind the safety car, Franco Colapinto locked his wheels and hit his team-mate Pierre Gasly. The data showed brake pressure 2 to 3 per cent higher than necessary. The driver, already carrying a five-place grid penalty for this weekend, went straight to the simulator at Enstone and then into meetings with management. Conclusion: a lesson well learned, no further sanction.
The team welcomes the formula. It has also decided to apply it to its own programme.
“On Sunday at Mariembourg, the kart track, Florian braked too hard into the first corner, like plenty of people in life,” says the team principal. “At Fabienne Racing, we have a project, so we have a procedure. Debrief meeting under the gazebo, with the managing director, which is me, the head of racing, also me, and the technical department, which is the brother-in-law, who brought his 12mm spanner. There was anger in the team, I won’t hide it. Mostly in me. Then we looked at the data: we don’t have any, so we looked at the tyre. Conclusion: a lesson well learned. We maximised our package.”
Colapinto summed it up for The Race: “You touch the brakes two or three percent too much, you lock the front and you don’t stop. It’s quite simple.” Fabienne Racing welcomes the clarity and adds that its team principal accepts explanations of the same kind from her driver, preferably delivered on a Monday, when the title partner is closed.
