I read Alonso’s quote three times, because for me that’s a slider. The electric power spike, you set it in the setup menu, under “energy deployment”, and you spread it along the straight instead of dumping it all at once before the braking zone. I tested that last night: minus zero point one eight seconds a lap, with a lower top speed but a cleaner corner entry. In real life, they don’t have that slider. They have a regulation.
Alonso said: “The speed will increase and won’t drop after the big acceleration phase. That will give us speeds worthy of racing cars, and we’ll arrive at the corners at maximum speed, rather than in the middle of the straight.” That’s exactly what my slider does. Except my slider doesn’t argue with the president of the FIA, it argues with me, and I always agree with myself.
Verstappen says it would take much deeper changes. He’s right, but in the sim, a deep change is a patch. In real life, it’s a 2027-2028 action plan that’s already been adopted. The variable nobody modelled here is how long it takes to change a rule. In theory, that should be quicker than a lap through Pouhon.
The FIA president and the teams are still discussing it, with no date announced. I already have my graph. It’s just waiting for someone to look at it.
It’s true, we checked: Nextgen-Auto.
