Leclerc asks if Pérez still drives for Red Bull: Fabienne Racing keeps its files tidy

Second in the Singapore Grand Prix behind Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc was held up late in the race by Sergio Pérez, now a Cadillac driver. According to Formule1.nl, he wondered over the radio whether Pérez still drove for Red Bull, the team Pérez raced for from 2021 to 2024.

PRESS RELEASE. Fabienne Racing has taken note of the unbroadcast onboard radio footage from the Singapore Grand Prix, published by Formule1.nl. In it, Charles Leclerc wonders whether Sergio Pérez still drives for Red Bull, because the Cadillac was not immediately obeying the blue flags.

The team wishes to clarify a point of procedure: Sergio Pérez drives for Cadillac. He raced for Red Bull from 2021 to 2024. A contract, at our place, is a document you put in a folder, under the gazebo, next to the stopwatch. The paddock seems to need the same system.

“At Fabienne Racing, we have a project, and a clear organisation chart,” says the team principal. “Florian drives for Fabienne Racing. He always has. The title partner knows it, the brother-in-law’s garage knows it, the trailer knows it. Nobody asks the question over the radio. Admittedly, we don’t have a radio.”

The team also notes the diligence of Pérez’s engineer, who announced the Ferrari at 3.8 seconds, then repeated the blue flags for Leclerc a lap later. Two messages for one instruction: communication we salute, we who spend Sunday shouting from the gazebo.

Leclerc eventually passed the Cadillac at the exit of the Turn 13 hairpin and finished 7.3 seconds behind Max Verstappen, his first podium since the Belgian Grand Prix. He said he was pleased, but not overjoyed. “We maximised our package,” comments the team principal, “and so did he, I think. You never turn down second place.”

The team remains open to discussions with any team wishing to clarify who drives for whom.

The editor-in-chief’s comment « Un drapeau bleu n'a pas de couleur d'écurie. Il est bleu » est du vrai Josiane, mais « le noyau précise » casse le personnage et le titre au « ils » ambigu tombe à plat.
