Wolff can’t explain Antonelli’s pole: Fabienne Racing offers its expertise

Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes) took pole for the United States Grand Prix ahead of Max Verstappen and Isack Hadjar. Toto Wolff had predicted a place between third and fifth and says he cannot explain the lap.

PRESS RELEASE.

Fabienne Racing congratulates Mercedes on Kimi Antonelli’s pole position at the United States Grand Prix, ahead of Max Verstappen and Isack Hadjar. The team has taken note of Toto Wolff’s remarks, reported by RacingNews365: he says he has no clear explanation for the lap, set on his first attempt in Q3.

“We understand perfectly,” says the team principal. “At our place too, the best lap often comes on the first run, before the brother-in-law’s garage has touched anything. We call that data.”

The team notes that Wolff had predicted a place between third and fifth, when asked by a guest. Fabienne Racing salutes an outfit that under-promises. “We always announce the win, it’s simpler for the partners,” the team principal explains.

Wolff is surprised that Antonelli managed such a strong second sector while saving his tyres for the slow parts at the end of the lap. On this point the team has recognised expertise: in Philippeville, Belgium, tyres are saved for the whole season. They sleep under the gazebo.

On the championship, Wolff would rather not talk about it yet. Fabienne Racing is not commenting either, out of solidarity, and because Florian’s programme is not involved this weekend.

The team remains open to discussions with any outfit looking for an explanation.
