Post 14 report. Tuesday 29 September. No race. It’s bitter all the same.
Observation: a video opens like a retirement. Car 14 in my folder, sorry, the driver, announces he will retire from F1. Then he says “but not yet.” According to The Race, he feels fast, motivated, and racing is his life. At the post, we call that a green flag after a false start. We restart.
Second observation: he told BBC Sport he is staying because he still feels fast. On the same outlet he added that it was not the time to stop, because “I’m better than that guy. I’m better than that other guy.” He cannot stop racing while he thinks like that. He names nobody. Neither do I. We agree on method.
Third observation: 440 starts. At every start, someone at the trackside had a flag in hand. Nobody asked how many flags.
Fourth observation: the car. According to The Race, it disappoints, and the Honda engine lacks performance despite an update. The driver wants bigger changes to the 2027 regulations. He hopes the 60-40 split, in two stages by 2028, will make things a little easier. At the post, we ask for changes too. We are told “noted.”
At the Dutch Grand Prix, he held two faster cars behind him for the whole final stint. Ninth. I wasn’t at the post that day. I would have liked to show the blue flag to nobody. Post 14, received.
Lance Stroll stays too. Two drivers, one team, and “the next chapter of the team,” as Lawrence Stroll told RacingNews365. Jean-Luc, my reserve, stays too. Nobody made him a video. Nothing further to report.
